Before you start learning to drive the following apply:

Sit a Driver theory Test. Book by phone on Lo Call 1890 606 106 for English language and 1890 606 806 for Irish language. You will normally receive a test within 10 days. Theory Test Website: http://www.dtts.ie/eng/index.htm Theory test book and CD Rom is available at all good bookshops.

Complete Eyesight Report Form D 502 which can be obtained from any Motor Tax Office and have an eye examination with an optician or medical doctor. This form can be obtained from or downloaded from the following website: http://www.transport.ie/upload/general/4915-1.ddf

Get you learner permit from your local Motor Tax Office

You can now start driving and must be accompanied by a driving instructor or a person who has held a full driving licence for two years or more.

When you have taken sufficient training and advised to apply for your test, fill up the application form D? , enclose the correct fee and send to RSA or alternatively you can download the application form from http://www.rsa.ie and apply on line.

Topics: The Theory Test can be taken at 15 years of age as a pass certificate lasts for two years. Questions include road safety, Rules of the Road, identifying hazards, pedestrians and basic technical aspects of the vehicle.

Restrictions: ‘L’ drivers must be accompanied by the holder of a full driving licence who has held it for at least two years. They are not allowed to drive on motorways. ‘L’ plates must be displayed on their vehicle and they must hold a learner permit for at least six months before taking their driving test.
